Using a grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Conservation Foundation purchased a small parking lot along Tamiami Trail adjacent to the Venice Theatre. Working with the City of Venice, this piece of asphalt was transformed it into a lovely urban park connecting people to the Venetian Waterway Park and beautifying the northern gateway to Venice Island. The park is named after local philanthropist Michael Biehl.
This small park demonstrates the importance of transforming a vacant or underused site into a place where people can visit, rest, and have fun. Parks and natural areas in our communities provide places to gather, make them more attractive, help increase the value of surrounding lands, and spur economic development and tourism.
The revitalization of the site inspired a local artist to create the mural for the wall of Venice Theatre, depicting the beauty of nature in and around Venice, Florida
The park is located at 180 W. Tampa Ave., Venice, FL, 34285. It is on the northwest corner of Business US-41, and Tampa Avenue, on the Island of Venice.
